CASE SCENARIO 10

An 18-year-old male patient sustained an animal bite (from a camel) to his left forearm twelve days ago, resulting in an open injury. Initially, he sought treatment from traditional bone setters, who applied massage, tight dressing with a wooden object, and traditional herbal medicine within a splint. Presently, he has presented to our hospital with an infected limb extending from the tip of his finger to his upper shoulder. His X-ray reveals a radioulnar fracture, although the traditional bone setters had initially denied any fracture and applied a splint from the elbow to his wrist. Upon admission to our hospital, the patient’s condition was critical, prompting removal of the splint. Wound care and antibiotics were initiated prior to surgery, resulting in significant improvement, and he has now been discharged.
